Celebrating her 50th birthday, the prima donna assoluta, at the height of her powers, presents a dazzling selection of iconic soprano arias by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Puccini, Cilea, and Purcell, including "Dido's Lament," Anna Netrebko's first-ever baroque piece in English. Recorded in the famous Auditorium of La Scala in Milan, with the La Scala Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Riccardo Chailly, the audio album on the Blu-ray edition is accompanied by an artistic music film that combines four music videos of arias by Verdi, Purcell, Tchaikovsky, and Wagner with fragmentary interviews with Netrebko. Shot primarily at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan during and immediately after the recording of the album, it explores Anna Netrebko's performative practices in approaching her heroines interpretively. Framed by an interview in which the singer offers rare insights into herself and the album's music, the film follows the four arias as they are translated to the screen, each with a unique cinematic aesthetic. Aida, Lisa, Dido, and Isolde come to life in a series of visual experiments driven by powerful musical motifs.
